It is with great pleasure I announce that the District Nominating Committee has interviewed and chosen Julie Carney of the Avon Rotary Club as the District Governor Nominee Designate.  Julie will serve as Governor for  Rotary District 7120 in the Rotary year 2023-2024.

Julie joined Avon Rotary in 2009 after experiencing, firsthand, the Interact Program.  She jumped right into the Interact Program and ran the local club at Avon High School with fellow Rotarians.   In 2010 she was asked to be the District Chair for Interact and held that position until 2012.
At the Club level, Julie started out as the Club Counselor/Youth Exchange Officer and held that position from 2011-2013.   In 2012 Julie joined the YEX District Committee and was the Outbound Chair 2012-2015, the Inbound Chair 2015-2018, and the District Chair 2018-2020.  During that time, she was also the Country Officer for Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, and is currently the Country Officer for Belgium.   Julie and her family have hosted 6 Exchange Students from 2010-2015.   Their daughter went on Exchange to Belgium in 2017-18.

RYLA has been a big part of her and Jim’s life since their son attended in 2010.  At the closing ceremony, Roger Ressman (RYLA Chair) asked if anyone wanted to get involved.   They immediately raised their hands and jumped right in.   They became one of the “Mom’s” and “Pop’s” from 2011-2020 and Julie took over as District Chair of RYLA 2017-2020.   Their daughter also attended in 2016.

As you can see, Julie does not like to stay idle and is a recipient of her Clubs Rookie of the Year 2010, Rotarian of the Year 2011, and a Paul Harris Recipient 2012 and 2020.  Julie owned her own catering business for 15 years and is now retired.  Julie attended MCC and SUNY Brockport for Marketing.   Julie also was part of the Walt Disney World College Program from 1985-86.

Julie’s husband Jim is the retired Police Chief in Avon and currently is the Supervisor for NYSDOT contractor.   He is an active member of the Avon Lions Club and is also active in Rotary as a “Pop” for RYLA as well as being the ARO for the Youth Exchange Program 2014-2020.   Jim is also a Paul Harris Fellow recipient 2020.

Julie and Jim reside in Avon and have four children.   Joshua and his wife Sawyer and their two sons Hollis and Finch live in Medina, Jacob lives in Rochester, Hannah and her husband Eddie and their son Fritz live in Fairport and their daughter Sarah attends SUNY Brockport.

Julie and Jim are excited to keep the momentum of Rotary moving forward!
