DG Janet Stirring up a batch of what?

I’m not exactly mixing up a batch of vaccine here, but certainly eating and drinking healthy options is one way of preventing disease!
Happy Holiday Season!

December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month in the Rotary World, and as we are seeing, the COVID Pandemic is still with us and is rearing its ugly head with another new variant.  We’re not sure what will transpire in the near future, so taking precautions like wearing masks, washing your hands, using hand sanitizer, and social distancing are still very much a part of our lives. Virtual and hybrid meetings will continue.

I had the privilege of having dinner the other night with some folks from Newark Rotary, and found out that during the initial shortage of PPE masks, they took on the task of making masks for Rochester General Hospital.  They own a furniture factory, and by the best of chances, the fabric that is used for lining under the fabric is exactly what is needed for masks.  They ordered a huge quantity of it, created patterns, lined up volunteers to sew, and went at it!  Hallagan Manufacturing Co. in Newark, NY produced thousands of masks, thanks to the efforts of Lucina and Steve Hallagan, and a whole host of volunteers from Newark Rotary and the community.   This is a great example of Serving to Change Lives!

DG Janet stirring up a batch of what?I’m not exactly mixing up a batch of vaccine here, but certainly eating and drinking healthy options is one way of preventing disease!  So during this holiday season, keep the 400 million people across the globe who don’t have access to essential health services in mind, because they may feel that their only option is a witch’s brew like the one I’m stirring here!

This month, think about how your club can focus on preventing and fighting disease.  This is the time to take a bigger, better, bolder approach through both club and district projects that can impact more people.  Re-evaluate where you are with your goals.  Create strategies that can sustain change over years, not months.

Everyone deserves a long, healthy  life.  When you Serve to Change Lives, your actions today can help extend the lives of others.
