I.                   SUGGESTIONS FOR SELECTION OF CONTESTANTS

 

A.      Contact local High School Principals, Music or Drama Teachers, Church Youth Choir or Private Voice Teachers in you area, for names of possible candidates, or

 

B.       Schedule a club program/competition with judges from high schools, local voice teachers, church youth directors, youth choir directors, or club members; a great program; or

 

C.       Encourage high schools to have a competition and send winners to club to perform for one of your programs

 

II.                APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR COMPETITION AT ROBERTS WESLEYAN COLLEGE, ROCHESTER, NY.

 

 A.      ROTARY CLUB completes an application for each contestant they enter into the  competition.  Club sends all application (NO LIMIT) with $50.00 per application to:

Checks should be made out to Rotary District 7120-Vocal Contest

 

 DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS DECEMBER 15, 2009. MAIL APPLICATION TO:

 

   Paul Cimicata, 129 Brizee Street, East Rochester,  NY 14445    (due DECEMBER 19, 2009)

 

 III.             LOCATION AND TIME OF THE COMPETITION:

 

                                             SHEWAN RECITAL HALL

                                         SATURDAY January 10, 2010

                                                     At  1:30 PM

 

 FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD PLACE WINNERS WILL PERFORM AT THE DISTRICT 7120 CONFERENCE

 

 IV.              AWARDS

 

 PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE CERTIFICATES, AND A WRITTEN COPY OF THEIR ADJUDICATION FROM PROFESSIONAL ADJUDICATORS.

 

FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD PLACE WINNERS WILL RECEIVE THE ABOVE PLUS CASH AWARDS ( $1000.00 1ST PRIZE, $500.00 2ND PRIZE,  $300.00 3RD PRIZE )   ROBERTS  WESLEYAN COLLEGE WILL GRANT A  SCHOLARSHIP TO THE 1ST PLACE WINNER IF HE/SHE DECIDES TO ATTEND ROBERTS.  THE ONE TIME AWARD WILL BE $6000.00

 

 V.                 ELIGIBILITY

 

 THE CONTEST IS OPEN TO YOUNG JUNIORS OR SENIORS HIGH SCHOOL MEN AND WOMEN, LOCATED WITHIN THE ROTARY DISTRICT 7120.

 

 DESCRIPTION OF THE SINGER OF THE YEAR PROGRAM

 

The program is designed to encourage high school students as they develop the art of solo singing.  EACH CLUB IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SELECTING THE CANDIDATES IT WISHES TO SPONSOR.

 

 

 COMPETITION  2 contrasting selections. At least one must be from the the NYSSMA Maual, Grade V or VL (Available at your local High School)

 

 

  ACCOMPANIST:  a solo pianist should accompany All selections.  The singer may provide their own or one will be provided on the day of the competition. RWC provides excellent accompanists, but they must have the music 2 weeks prior to the competition.  ABSOLUTELY NO TAPED ACCOMPANIMENT

 

 SHEET MUSIC: A single copy of all selections must be provided for the adjudication on the day of competition.  All music will be returned immediately following the event.  ABSOLUTELY NO PHOTOCOPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

 

 JUDGES:  PRELIMINARY COMPETITION IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE LOCAL Rotary Club

FINAL COMPETITION WILL BE adjudicated by professional vocalists from the upstate New York region

 EACH CONTESTANT WILL SING THEIR TWO CONTRASTING SELECTIONS.
